Let us know why you became a DJ, what is it about being a DJ that made you decide this is what you want to do with your life!

For me the journey began inside a second language room at Elm Place Middle School, as my english teacher left us for a small break and she let us play on the turntable she had to use for the language records she was having us go over.  I came to this country in 1987 and I came here from South America, Venezuela to be exact and I have always been surounded by rythm and music, and records and turntables always had a kind of intrigue for me.  So on this particular day I decided to start messing with the records and I started scratching it back and forth as the teacher came in with her face of horror screaming for me to not do that it's going to ruin the record.  Flash forward 10 years and in early 1997 I had my first true and tried time with a pair of gemini turntables, if your a DJ well you know then that this is as close to a hoopty set up if there is a better term to describe this.  I made the best of my first time experience and I began my journey into electronic music.  The first style that hit me right away was Drum & Bass I loved playing jungle records and listening to the fast beats of those drums and the deep bass drops that could knock your teeth out.  But soon enough I came across the House music sound that took over my whole life and being, til this day 12 years later I listen to house every day, I live, eat, and breath House music.  So this is the brief to the point version of why I became a DJ and why I am stil to this day doing this for the love of the music.

I became a Dj so i easely could pick up chicks.

nah.. just kidding.

I started for the love of the funky house, and because i was so sick of all the trance and eurotrance that was being played around in the clubs in 1999-2000.
Now after some years doing other stuff i started realizing that again the funky sound was fading away and being replaced with minmal and such.  So for the sake of humanity i've thrown my self back in the saddle to represent funky again.

Don't misunderstand, i have much respect for Dj's and producers who play other styles than funky etc. but for me it's got to have the funky edge Laughing

Peace!

In 1981 I had a job washing dishing and the chefs had a friend that was a DJ. They would play his tapes at work and it grew on me. I would hear the way he mixed from one song to another and thought WOW that sounds really cool if only I could do that.A couple of years went by then I decided to by my first setup.I went to Radio Shack and bought a Realistic mixer then I went to Service Merchandise and bought two Technics Servo beltdrive turntables. I had an UncleSams record store by my house and started spending all my money on records.I remember the first time I actually matched a beat the feeling that I got from that was incredible. After I got the money to upgrade I bought my first pair of 1200's from a pawn shop.I had gotten so used to the servo turntables that I could not mix the 1200's and let my friend have them.I soon came to my senses and got back my 1200's and I even added a third.I started playing Disco then freestyle and Bass. I was introduced to HOUSE by a good friend of mine.It took me a while for my taste of music to mature and I could not be happier. While I still like to play Freestyle I love to play House and I will never stop playing Disco.

I was never into drugs but I can understand the addiction. I compare it to the tremendous "high" that I get playing in front of a crowd of people responding to what I am playing and the almost puppet master feeling I get knowing that I can control the crowd with what I play and how I play it.It is something I look forward to every time I play. I must have retired and said OK it's time to grow up and move on about ten times, But then I quickly realize that I can't live without it.If I am at a club or playing at home i just LOVE IT.

I feel like you could probably teach a class on how to make a great blog.  This is fantastic!  I have to say, what really got me was your design.  You certainly know how to make your blog more than just a rant about an issue.  Youve made it possible for people to connect.  Good for you, because not that many people know what theyre doing.

Awesome post. There may be lots of great info here, though I want tell you one point - I am using Mac OS X with the newest beta of Firefox, the look and feel of your site is sort of quirky for me. I can understand the article, but the navigation does not operate so good for me.

Cheers for the info. The internet is so full of garbage it is difficult to find exactly what you are looking for these days. Do you have RSS on this site?
